Lusaka incubator BongoHive will host the Zambian leg of the global Startup Weekend competition on November 28-30, offering the winners prizes and the chance to compete in the international competition.
BongoHive said the event would be a 54-hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing and market validation, culminating with presentations to local entrepreneurial leaders.
“Despite Zambia’s economic growth in recent years, youth unemployment figures remain high. The world is at a pivotal point right now, re-evaluating models of education and forming policies that will shape and foster new business creation,” said Lukonga Lindunda, co-founder of BongoHive.
The hub expects the Startup Weekend event to harness the power of creativity and human potential by empowering individuals and teams to build and validate solutions to local opportunities and problems.
“We expect entrepreneurs to work on ideas that not only solve problems in our community, but will also lead to the creation of viable businesses,” Lindunda said.
“We are proud to have a diverse panel of judges with over 30 years combined experience in the investment and technology sectors, and with representation from Zambia’s first privately owned VC firm.”
