Cape Town is well place to become a key global tech hub if collaboration continues between all stakeholders, according to speakers at the U-Start Africa conference today in the city.
The event is taking place today at City Hall, and was opened by Stefano Guidotti, chief executive officer (CEO) of U-Start, and Zachariah George, the company’s chief operating officer (COO) for Africa.
Guidotti was optimistic about Cape Town’s future and its ability to become a key destination in the global technology industry.
“This sector is changing the world. It is changing and disrupting every sector, every part of our lives,” he said.
“This is a sector that needs constant exposure. We are convinced that Cape Town is an opportunity and has all the means to be one of the key hubs in the world.”
Guidotti said U-Start’s job was to bridge the gap between the tech ecosystem on one side, and family offices and high worth individuals.
George stressed the need for collaboration to continue if Cape Town and the rest of South Africa was to progress.
“It is such an important thing in a place such as South Africa to have people work together and collaborate,” he said. “It is a privilege to see how collaboration is able to help entrepreneurs and channel investment not just into Cape Town but the entire country.”
He said U-Start’s vision for the next three to five years was to become the largest pre-IPO tech and digital conference in Africa.
