Two South African companies finished in the top three emerging high-growth companies at the PwC Accelerator ‘Local to Global’ expo held in Luxembourg last week.
Technology provider wiGroup was declared the overall winner, beating nine other emerging high-growth companies that showcased their innovative solutions before a panel of independent international judges.
Another South Africa-based company, mobile anti-fraud solution Entersekt, finished in the top three of the same category.
“We are proud that the quality of South African innovation and entrepreneurship we recently saw during our Vision to Reality awards programme has been recognised on the international stage,” said PwC partner in charge of the Western Cape Danie Fölscher.
Ten global high-tech companies presented their solutions at the expo, which is an international event showcasing the companies selected by PwC’s Accelerator worldwide to enhance their visibility and credibility, while also introducing them to potential partners to increase their international strategies.
“Being part of the PwC Local to Global Expo has been an incredible experience. Firstly being based in Luxembourg has opened up amazing connections to the European market, but the programme itself has also brought together extraordinary people from around the globe, all of whom have the potential to assist our business expansion into other markets,” said Bevan Ducasse, chief executive officer (CEO) of wiGroup.
“The strategic advice, the knowledge sharing and the general belief in building global businesses, is inspiring and invaluable to us as entrepreneurs.”
Schalk Nolte, CEO of Entersekt, said: “It was wonderful being part of an inspiring group and to see the passion PwC has for entrepreneurship, as well as the value they add to building companies into global success stories. The networking and collaboration opportunities they open up can be integral to expansion beyond your home market. Seeing what they have done for other companies in their growth journeys was very encouraging and insightful.”
Maija de Rijk-Uys, PwC senior manager based in Cape Town, said: “The event included entrepreneurs, investors, key industry leaders and PwC experts and showcased to the audience how powerful the global PwC Accelerator network is to CEOs considering global expansion. The PwC Accelerator is all about working with new generation CEOs, speaking their language and focusing on their ambitious needs around growth and business acceleration to enhance shareholder value.”
wiGroup was also recently announced the overall winner of the PwC South Africa Vision to Reality Awards at an awards ceremony held in Cape Town.
The company was chosen by the judges for being a “game changer” in the industry and an exceptional “role model for other entrepreneurs”. Entersekt came in second place in the same competition.
