Ugandan co-working space Outbox has opened applications for its next intake of students for the Kids Computer Programming Initiative.
The initiative focuses on teaching students aged between seven and 14 years computer software programming skills, with the aim of improving their problem solving and creative skills.
The next programme will run between January 10 and March 14, 2015 in Kampala; with registration now open.
“For us, teaching children to program computers isn’t the end result, but making something (while building on their programming skills in the process) is. Our goal is to use programming to guide children to think creatively, work collaboratively and reason systematically,” the organisers said.
Outbox particularly encourages students in their primary seven vacation to participate.
The course costs UGX540,000 per child (US$196), and participants need their own laptop.
