South African on-demand delivery app WumDrop goes live in the Randburg and Sandton areas of Johannesburg on Monday, December 8, while also expanding its existing Cape Town territory.
Founded in May this year by Simon Hartley and Roy Borole, WumDrop connects users with a team of couriers. Rather like Uber, when a user requests a courier all drivers receive a trip request.
Once a driver accepts, they collect and deliver the requested item, billing the user ZAR7 per kilometre, 70 per cent of which goes to the driver and 30 per cent to WumDrop.
Thus far only available in Cape Town, WumDrop is now launching in Johannesburg via API, desktop website and Android app, initially in the Randburg and Sandton areas. At the same time, the company is also launching version two of its Android app, and expanding its existing Cape Town territories to include Bellville, Westlake and Blouberg.
“Cape Town is a great starting ground. The consumers really do nag you about everything, and we’re grateful about that. It’s been a great proving ground,” Hartley told Disrupt Africa.
“But Johannesburg is where the volume is.”
