The tiphub startup accelerator programme and software development firm Coders4Africa have partnered to launch a Prototyping Fund, which offers entrepreneurs up to US$25,000 is grant funding to build a software prototype.

Disrupt Africa reported last month on the Diaspora Demo Day hosted by tiphub in the United States (US), an event which saw Coders4Africa, which hires, trains and manages technology teams, named winner in the “beta” category.

The two have agreed to collaborate on the Prototyping Fund, aimed at entrepreneurs passionate about building new products and with an idea for an innovative software technology.

“These prototypes should help you articulate and test your assumptions and move to the next stage of product development. Coders4Africa will build your prototype, tiphub will invest to help you scale through our partners, mentors and finance networks,” the partners said.

Applying entrepreneurs must be able to contribute at least US$5,000 to their prototypes, with the US$25,000 funding to be provided in services and materials to build the prototype. Any entrepreneur with businesses that serve Africa or the African diaspora are eligible.

Applications are due by December 29, with five or six teams to be picked from the applicants on January 9 next year to receive the awards, with finished prototypes to then be released on March 31.

“Particular emphasis will be given to ensure diversity of project impact, team composition, region of operations and coding languages,” tiphub and Coders4Africa said.
