The winners of the Tech Trailblazers Awards have been announced, with the two African nominees for the emerging markets award named runners up.
Disrupt Africa reported last week Kenya’s healthcare IT solutions provider Fortis Innovations, and Nigeria’s home-grown smartphone handset producer Nerve Mobile, were shortlisted for the emerging markets award.
However, both African startups were pipped to the post by Singaporean nominee Temasys Communications, which provides real-time communications infrastructure for websites.
The awards saw startups nominated across 12 categories, namely, big data, cloud, emerging markets, fintech, internet of things, mobile, networking, security, storage, sustainable IT, virtualization, and the firestarter award for startups two years and younger, and below series A funding.
Shortlists for the awards were drawn up by a panel of judges, but voting was then opened to the public to determine the final winners.
All nominees were also automatically entered into regional cups – with the chance of winning region-specific prizes -, the winners of which will be announced next week.
