AMPION Venture Bus has been named one of eight winners of the 2015 Innovation Ecosystem Awards.
The Innovation Ecosystem Awards are hosted by Silicon Valley Venture Capital firm T2 Venture Creation, with winners to be showcased at their annual conference, the Global Innovation Summit – to be held in Silicon Valley in February.
T2 Venture Creation focuses on growing sustainable startup ecosystems that are regionally relevant; investing capital as well as time in startups which bridge the gap between the public and private spheres.
“We are extremely honoured to be selected for the global Innovation Ecosystem Awards. We are a young organization run by people who want to make a difference. It’s amazing to see that our work has a real impact on innovation ecosystems. We will strengthen our experience and develop more services to foster growth and innovation around the world,” said Fabian-Carlos Guhl, founder and managing director of AMPION.
AMPION brings together entrepreneurs on a five-day bus journey, during which time teams are formed and startups built from idea to prototype; with startups pitching their products at their arrival destination.
AMPION buses ran in West, Southern, East and North Africa between October and December 2014.
In West Africa, health-related public education app HaltEbola was crowned winner of the programme; while in Southern Africa water contamination solution e-Maji took first place.
In East Africa, carpooling marketplace Jambo Car was named winner, and in North Africa recycling startup TrashCash won the trip.
