Silicon Valley-based accelerator Blackbox has announced the April edition of its international Blackbox Connect programme will be dedicated solely to female founders.
Blackbox Connect brings together selected startups from across the world, for an immersive two-week programme in Silicon Valley involving meetings and workshops with entrepreneurs, investors, experts and executives, in a bid to empower global entrepreneurs with Silicon Valley resources.
Blackbox hosts four to five Connect programmes each year, but for the first time the accelerator has decided its April 27 to May 8 programme will be dedicated to female entrepreneurs exclusively; with the programme called the Female Founders Edition.
“There is a need to increase support for women entrepreneurs. Our philosophy is that role modeling is the best way to influence others, we’re committed to increase the number of women role models /successful entrepreneurs and innovation leaders,” Fadi Bishara, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Blackbox told Disrupt Africa.
Female founders can apply online to win a place on the programme.
Disrupt Africa reported last month Egyptian startup Edfa3ly and Ugandan startup Fezah were among 15 startups to be selected for the Blackbox Connect winter cohort, which begins on February 9.
