Microsoft BizSpark is to host two Helix startup development programmes in South Africa, aimed at helping viable software businesses “come to life”.
BizSpark Helix is a five-day business development and coaching programme, with selected entrepreneurs receiving support in ensuring their software or app- based business has a solid business model, and help in growing the business.
Two courses are to be held in South Africa between March 2 and 6, one in Ekurhuleni, and the other in Johannesburg.
“Every entrepreneur and every business start-up has a unique DNA – made up of several combined “strands” – just like human DNA: a unique vision, a product concept, a market focus and a set of skills, abilities and passions,” BizSpark Helix said.
“BizSpark Helix aims to take those strands and ensure that they come to life, and thrive, based on sound and sustainable business foundations.”
Each day of the five day course focuses on a new topic, led by an expert in the field.
The programme culminates with participants pitching their businesses to a group of investors, mentors and Microsoft BizSpark portfolio managers and coaches – all looking for businesses to support and accelerate.
50 spaces are available for each course, with successful applicants fully sponsored by Microsoft BizSpark and the Development Bank of South Africa.
In addition to participation in the course, successful applicants will become members of the Microsoft BizSpark community, receiving ZAR60,000 (US$5,160) worth of free software licenses, access to online resources and coaching, regular technology and business events, and a local and global community of entrepreneurs
Applicants need not be programmers, but the course if only open to entrepreneurs with a software or app development business with current or planned products, or who have a software or app concept they believe has commercial potential.
Applications can be made online.
