The inaugural Advanced ICT Training (AICTT) camp is to be held in the Gambia, with 100 young ICT professionals from West Africa to be selected for the intensive training event.
The event is intended to address the lack of dedicated ICT initiatives in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) region, with the camp promising to inspire new ideas, approaches and projects, improve skills, as well as draw focus to local ICT challenges and opportunities.
The camp’s sessions will centre on the areas that are current and relevant, and particularly those aligned with strategic priorities for public governance, private sector growth and entrepreneurship within the ICT sector of West Africa.
The training camp will run between April 1 and 24, and will consist of three subject areas, namely, cyber-security and advanced intrusion protection; geographic information service and data management; and application development and e-commerce.
The training period will be followed by an additional “bonus” week during which participants will develop their own project ideas to be presented to international academics and practitioners in a two day workshop at the end of the camp.
A full scholarship programme is also available for 50 participants from Nigeria, Ghana and the Gambia, which will cover the training, flight and accommodation.
The camp is open to applicants from ECOWAS countries aged between 23 and 35, and hold a bachelors degree or higher in an ICT relevant subject, as well as having two or more years’ work experience in an ICT field.
For Gambian citizens the camp will cost US$1,000; while ECOWAS citizens will be charged US$3,950.
