PwC, Silicon Cape and Microsoft BizSpark have partnered to launch the “Emerging Companies Insights” survey, aimed at assessing and comparing emerging companies to understand the challenges and opportunities in the sector.
The survey can be filled out online until May 15, after which the data will be analysed and published alongside other relevant research pieces and economic indicators in the inaugural South African “Emerging Companies Insights” thought leadership publication.
Startups that take part in the survey stand a chance to win a prize worth ZAR50,000 (US$4,200), with the partners seeking insights from startups either South African controlled or headquartered in South Africa, and owning proprietary technology, using licensed technology or having intellectual property that contributes to a significant portion of operating revenue.
“This national survey aims to provide the market and its stakeholders with an in-depth, relevant and up-to-date view of emerging companies with technology enabled solutions. The companies included in the survey cover a broad research scope of highly innovative businesses spanning across any industry from healthcare, advanced manufacturing, mining technology, agri-food processing and others,” PwC, Silicon Cape and Microsoft BizSpark said.
“Contributing insights derived from this survey include a national cross section of emerging companies spanning all industries with technology enabled solutions, from early stage to approximately ZAR100 million (US$8.5 million) revenue per annum, as well as investor and/or other ecosystem stakeholders’ views. It includes those companies not traditionally included in the information and communications technology (ICT) definition, but which are technologically-enabled.”
This is just the latest such survey to be launched in South Africa. Silicon Cape previously partnered SiMODiSA to launch the Startup SA Government Support Survey, while entrepreneurial training programme Seed Academy launched its own aimed at obtaining a picture of the country’s startup sector and the challenges it faces.
Disrupt Africa reported last month Deloitte was using microjobbing platform M4JAM to gather information from entrepreneurs operating in the Western Cape.
