Nominations and entries are open for the the Maverick Awards for South African Youth Entrepreneurship Excellence, offering winners prizes amounting to ZAR3 million (US$250,000) in business development interventions.
The awards, organised by youth entrepreneurship development consultancy Under 35 Mavericks, are in their second year, and look to recognise and acknowledge the business success of young, dynamic and innovative entrepreneurs in South Africa.
“The award ceremony is designed to showcase potential young, high impact-high growth entrepreneurial talent, and provide a platform for new role models that will serve to inspire a youth-driven entrepreneurial revolution in the country,” Under 35 Mavericks said.
Nominations and entries are open until May 1, with young entrepreneurs operating across all sectors encouraged to enter. Finalists will be announced on June 1, with winners confirmed on June 18 at the second annual Maverick Awards Gala Dinner to be held in Gauteng. The ZAR3 million in prizes will be made up of a combination of different offerings intended to provide support for young entrepreneurs to optimise the successful scale up of their businesses.
Among the 2014 winners were Bevan Ducasse, founder of WiGroup, and Alex Fourie, founder of iFix.
