South African microjobbing startup M4JAM has partnered supermarket chain Shoprite to allow jobbers to cash their payments at any Shoprite outlet across the country.
M4JAM users will now be able to cash payments at 990 stores across the country, with codes issued in real time as soon as they are requested.
To raise awareness of the partnership, M4JAM will be rolling out 3,000 jobs requiring jobbers to cash out at one of the stores.
“Partnering with M4JAM is a great way for us to move cash out of our system. It’s even better that we can be part of the collaborative economy through our association with M4JAM, and play a role in helping hard-working South Africans make ends meet,” said banking and payment systems manager at Shoprite Tremaine Hechter.
It has been a busy few months for the startup, which takes big jobs from reputable companies and breaks them into smaller jobs, allowing users to complete simple tasks using their phones in exchange for cash and prizes. Disrupt Africa reported in February it had raised funding from Naspers and Tencent-owned WeChat Africa, while in March Deloitte announced it is using the platform to gather information from entrepreneurs operating in the Western Cape.
