Social impact entrepreneurs in Kenya are invited to apply for the e4i Challenge business idea competition, for the chance to win a full scholarship to the Tangaza University College Social Entrepreneurship MBA course.
The competition is open to entrepreneurs with existing businesses, as well as those with an unlaunched business idea; and is targeted at four business sectors, namely, ICT and mobile tech; renewable energy and green economy; agri-business; and business services.
Participants will be asked to pitch their business idea at the challenge event to be held in Nairobi on June 5, at the iHub.
Ideas will be judged with a particular focus on the impact the business has or will have on the community, whether through job creation, providing better amenities, improve the living standards of people around, promoting environmental protection, among other possible impacts, the organisers said.
The first prize winner will be given a full scholarship for the Social Entrepreneurship MBA hosted by Tangaza University College, and run in conjunction with the Catholic University of Milan, and the ALTIS Graduate School for Business and Society.
A half and quarter scholarship will also be made available for the second and third place winners of the competition.
“Unlike other programs, this is an experiential MBA and consists of a unique blend of long distance learning, long weekends and boot camps periodically. In this way the entrepreneur is not away from the business for long periods considering that most are usually startups and whatever is learnt is applied to the business and not just a theoretical course,” explained a Tangaza University College spokesperson.
In addition to improving business and entrepreneurship skills, Tangaza’s spokesperson said the 16 month MBA course offers access to seed funding, work space, mentoring and business coaching, and access to industry experts and investors, throughout the duration of the programme.
Applications to participate in the e4i challenge are open until May 20.
