Online accommodation booking startup SleepOut has launched a rewards club in the South African cities of Johannesburg and Cape Town as it looks to ramp up its presence in the country.
Disrupt Africa reported last week SleepOut, which launched in Kenya in 2011 and now offers over 10,000 unique places to sleep in 27 African countries and 68 countries worldwide, was focusing on bigger markets such as South Africa in a significant way.
The startup has now announced it will be offering its users access to exclusive discounts and cash rewards for inviting friends and family to start using the service, with SleepOut keen to get more South Africans using the platform.
The SleepOut Club is being rolled out in Johannesburg and Cape Town to reward travellers and accommodation hosts alike, with referrers receiving a US$20 credit every time a friend starts using the platform and an additional US$30 for every friend that hosts guests using the online marketplace.
Discounts are also being offered by recognised local and international services that might come in handy for SleepOut travellers, with Zando offering vouchers off purchases, Lion Park in Johannesburg offering discounted entry, Cape Town Helicopters knocking money off flights and Uber providing SleepOut Club members with free credit for new users.
“The club is really about rewarding SleepOut’s top guests and hosts by giving them the opportunity to benefit from exclusive discounts that we’ve negotiated in South Africa’s coolest cities. The most exciting part is that our users will now earn travel money for getting their friends and family to host or travel with SleepOut,” said SleepOut chief executive officer (CEO) Johann Jenson.
