Brightest Young Minds (BYM) has announced its 15th annual summit will take place in Johannesburg on July 16-20, with the organisation to identify 100 new members of its network that looks to mobilise young people to create social impact.
Each year, BYM identifies 100 changemakers to join its network, with these young Africans selected based on their commitment to social impact through innovation. Individuals from any African country between the ages of 20 and 32 are eligible to apply.
The 2015 BYM summit will be themed #TIA (This is Africa). Though the phrase is generally associated with negative connotations, BYI plans to “turn #TIA on its head” by showcasing the positive change coming from young people across the continent.
Delegates will hear from Africans who have made their mark globally through innovation, entrepreneurship, politics and more, while also learning project development skills and working in teams to design startup solutions to social, economic and cultural challenges in 24 hours.
These ideas will then be presented to a panel with the possibility of being awarded funding and implementation support.
“Young Africans everywhere are taking responsibility for improving their communities. BYM exists to identify these young people and take their initiatives and impact to the next level,” said chief executive officer (CEO) Madelynne Wager.
