The first pre-pitch event for this year’s DEMO Africa takes place in Accra today, with another scheduled for Nairobi on Friday and two more in Cairo and Harare later this month.
Disrupt Africa reported last month DEMO Africa announced four “mini-events” would be held across Africa in the lead-up to the main conference in Lagos September, with DEMO then announcing a one-month extension to its application period to allow for extra submissions resulting from these events.
The events in Accra and Nairobi this week will allow startups to interact with the DEMO Africa team and receive feedback on their projects, with the most outstanding receiving a direct nomination to the event.
“Meeting various players gives us a better understanding of the startup needs which in turn enables us to enrich the DEMO Africa platform with various lessons and experiences drawn,” said DEMO Africa executive producer Harry Hare.
To qualify for DEMO Africa, startups must ensure their products have the ability to impact the marketplace. A clear business plan and a team capable of delivering the product are also vital, while it must be ready for launch and the business must be legally registered. Preference is given to disruptive innovations that have massive potential for scale.
In April, Disrupt Africa published advice for how to make the perfect application for DEMO Africa.
