Kenyan taxi hailing startup Maramoja has become the first within the country’s busy taxi app sector to make it possible for users to order boda bodas (motorcycle taxis) on their platform.
Kenya’s taxi hailing sector has become increasingly crowded, with Maramoja joining the likes of Uber and Easy Taxi in the market when it launched in March. The startup is looking to disrupt the “Uber model” by leveraging on social connections to offer a more trustworthy alternative.
So far, however, nobody in Kenya has made their platform available to boda bodas, though SafeMotos has rolled out a platform dedicated to motorcycle taxis in Rwanda. Maramoja has now become the first to open up it functionality to bikes as well as cars.
The startup said in a blog post it was looking to assist people in finding boda bodas that they really trust, following on from the “revolutionary movement” it said it has led over the last two years towards socially powered on-demand taxis.
“With a pilot fleet of bodas in Westlands, Kilimani, Lavington, and Town, we are eager to serve you with trusted boda bodas,” Maramoja said.
“When you use our web app to find a ride, you’ll see both taxis and boda bodas on the map. When you request a ride, simply select if you’d like a taxi or a boda, choose the driver you trust, and he’ll be on his way to you.”
As with taxis on the Maramoja platform, the price is fixed and users pay by whatever means they like.
