Ghanaian incubator iSpace will this Saturday, July 4, host a mobile apps showcase and the TURN8 Innov-a-thon pitching competition, aimed at allowing startups to show off their products and win a place on a four-month Dubai accelerator programme.
The first event at iSpace, located in Accra, is a mobile apps showcase, offering developers with new or updated products the chance to showcase their apps to the general public for feedback and promotion.
The TURN8 Innov-a-thon pitch competition will take place later in the afternoon, allowing anyone in the community to pitch their startup ideas for the chance to be flown to Dubai for a four-month accelerator programme.
Breakout workshops will be taking place throughout the day, open to the whole community, and specifically those who will be pitching and showcasing.
“With our world as highly globalised as it is, we find ourselves latching onto mobile apps that have been developed in Europe and North America,” said Alison Roadburg, programmes manager at iSpace, explaining the reasons behind the events.
“Though we find much inspiration from products designed and developed abroad, it is equally as important, if not more so, to recognise and purchase apps developed locally – which are contextually more relevant, made by Ghanaians, for Ghanaians.”
