Five female technology entrepreneurs from across Africa have been selected to participate in the Huawei and She Leads Africa-run Fellowship Programme, which will see the entrepreneurs travel to China to connect with industry leaders.
Disrupt Africa reported in April She Leads Africa announced a partnership with Huawei for the launch of the Fellowship Programme, offering Africa’s most promising female technology entrepreneurs the chance to participate in an innovation exchange with China.
Under the programme, the five selected entrepreneurs will travel to Shenzhen and Shanghai, visiting China’s leading technology companies, meeting with Chinese technology entrepreneurs, with a view to learning how to turn their African businesses into global tech leaders.
The five successful startups were selected from 300 applications spanning Africa and the diaspora.

“We were so impressed with the quality and creativity of the applications we received. The startups we selected demonstrated a clear problem they were solving, an innovative solution and how going to China would help them take a critical next step in their businesses” said She Leads Africa co-founder Yasmin Belo-Osagie.
According to the She Leads Africa and Huawei, China can serve as a model for African technology entrepreneurs, given the country is the fastest growing market in the world for technology.
