Nine African entrepreneurs have been selected among the 50 that will attend the MITx Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp in Cambridge, Massachusetts in August.
The bootcamp, which will take place on August 23-28, will see 50 entrepreneurs from 24 countries take place in a programme based on MIT teaching approaches enabled by digital technologies.
MIT said MITx aims to further the university’s tradition of innovation, and leading and reinventing education. The acceptance rate for the bootcamp is 0.08 per cent, while MIT alumni have started 25,600 companies, generated approximately US$2 trillion in revenue and created 3.3 million jobs.
The selected African entrepreneurs include Nigerian Emmanuel Adegboye, who runs Bus Stop, which looks to solve the problem of navigation using the various available public transportation options in Africa.
Chris Kwekowe, another Nigerian, runs Slatecube, which leverages knowledge with skill-acquisition to promote employability and social development, while compatriots Similoluwa Adejumo is founder of Aajoh, which optimises hospital productivity and revenues by transforming healthcare delivery using a simple, fast, secure and automated Web platform.
Another Nigerian Nasir Adbulqadir, runs Verdant, an agri-tech startup that collects agricultural data from different sources and places it at the convenience of farmers. Egyptians Youssef Safwat Ayad Farag and Hesham Elbashandy, Imo Etuk from South Africa, Sahl I. Mirghani from Sudan and Zimbabwean Les Mangondo will also take part in the bootcamp.
