Ghanaian incubator iSpace will this weekend (August 15-16) host a Science Hack Day, a free hackathon aimed at encouraging people to build scientific solutions.
The event is open to anyone interested in science and developing solutions, with the participants to be placed in multidisciplinary to complete focused tasks.
Science Hack Day will give teams time and space to create, experiment, and innovate, hosting four “lightening talks” – 10-15 minute informational and motivational talks from industry experts to inspire and maintain the momentum for hackers over the course of the weekend.
The weekend will close with a presentation of the experiments, that will be judged and the top teams rewarded.
“We all remember grade nine science. Some people have fond memories of experimenting with chemicals and dissecting small rodents,” said iSpace programmes manager Alison Roadburg.
“Other people have the opposite experience – troubles with memorising the periodic table of elements and oversized lab coats. I think Science Hack Day Accra will bring a fresh and renewed energy to the potentials of science, as well as an opportunity for people to play, get messy and experiment.”
