Online food delivery startup hellofood is expanding to Mombasa two years after its launch in Nairobi, saying the coastal city offers a “plethora of opportunities” for the company.
hellofood is active in more than 38 countries on five continents, offering restaurants greater visibility online and providing consumers with the convenience of ordering food online.
The startup launched in Nairobi in 2013, and is now setting up offices in Mombasa. New city manager for hellofood Mombasa Anthony Gitobu said the city offered a “plethora of opportunities” for food delivery.
“First of all, the city is known for its diverse, rich coastal cuisine that is served by great restaurants and is enjoyed by residents and tourists alike,” he said.
“Secondly, although it is popularly known for its laid-back atmosphere, there are some people who might not enjoy moving around in the heat in search of a good meal.”
Gitobu said hellofood was very excited to be setting up its service in Mombasa, where it says it can provide the same convenience that is enjoyed in Nairobi.
“We are confident that we’ll receive a positive outcome not only from residents, but it’s also a great opportunity for restaurant owners to market their restaurants as well,” he said.
