m:lab East Africa has partnered technical computer security collective AfricaHackOn to launch a cybersecurity programme for Kenyan startups and entrepreneurs, informing participants how to strengthen their defences.
The programme organised by m:lab East Africa and AfricaHackOn will take place for two hours each week day between September 14 and December 11 at the cost of KES60,000 (US$585).
Developed by AfricaHackOn, the training programme identifies potential threats and seeks to cater to both the needs of the regular internet user and the company. It will assist in bridging gaps in awareness and skills, providing insight in how to utilise certain tools, write scripts and programmes, and utilise information to help safeguard online presences and protect critical online resources.
“The objective of the training is to provide participants with both hands on technical skills and the supporting resources to ensure they are able and capable of detecting and thwarting threats they are exposed to online. The programme will also raise awareness on the dangers lurking online and the importance of cyber security among active online citizens and corporates,” m:lab said.
“This programme caters for our cybersavvy generation by providing a holistic learning experience that would enable them to be smarter, safer and cautious online protecting themselves from scams and attacks or defending corporate networks against Advanced Persistent Threats (APT).”
The training will utilise a hands-on approach where participants will get to both attack and investigate assets on AfricaHackOn’s cloud infrastructure. Practical sessions will be based on real-life scenarios.
