Greener Pastures has announced the opening of the second Global Management Challenge (GMC) for students in Kenya, offering the winner the chance to represent the country at the international finals in Macao in April of next year.
The GMC – which has been running worldwide since 1980 and is present in 35 countries – aims to provide a unique form of “experiential learning”, allowing students to enhance their skills in business management, critical thinking, strategy and teamwork.
“At Greener Pastures, we are keenly aware of the pursuit of excellence by Kenyans and businesses alike. Through the GMC, we aim to provide an alternative experience and platform through which students and professionals may continue this pursuit,” Greener Pastures said.
“Kenyan businesses look for skilled and experienced talent. Kenyan students and professionals seek worthwhile experiences to demonstrate one’s value as a potential employee. The GMC bridges the gap between these two needs.”
Team registration opened yesterday, and closes on September 30. Greener Pastures estimates between three and five hours per week time commitment for each team to structure and submit each week’s challenge.
The second edition of the GMC culminates in the Kenya National Final, which will take place on March 5 next year, with the national winner then going on to represent Kenya at the International Finals in April in Macao, off the coast of Hong Kong.
“GMC was an amazing experience. I learnt a lot from all the weekly challenges, but most importantly from the National Final. The realisation that important details go into improving the investment performance of a company was a great lesson. GMC put classwork into perspective”, said Carole Akoth of Kenyatta University, who took part in the last edition.
“We have received superb feedback from the inaugural competition with many participants keen on entering the competition once more. One of our National Finalists has earned an opportunity with one of Nairobi’s large multi-national consulting firms,” Greener Pastures said.
