Nigerian incubator Co-Creation Hub Nigeria (CcHub) is set to launch TechSQUAD, a platform connecting local businesses and organisations without technical teams to local technologists to work on their digital projects.
CcHub will launch TechSQUAD at an event at its offices tomorrow, having piloted the platform in the runup to this year’s Nigerian elections, during which it supported civil society organisations in building technology platforms.
The platform is launching with 81 technologists shortlisted from the 247 that applied, with clients able to file a brief detailing their specific project on TechSQUAD.
Technologists on the platform then bid for the work, after which the client picks their preferred “SQUAD General”. This person then picks a team of members to work on the project, with CCHub managing quality assurance and testing before the completed project is handed over to the client for launch.
The incubator said TechSQUAD would revolutionise the local technology industry by providing a seamless way for Nigerian technologists to service local companies, NGOs and government agencies.
“As the world goes digital, more and more Nigerian businesses, NGOs and government agencies want to join the wave,” CcHub said.
“Whether to build web platforms, mobile apps or desktop applications to improve their efficiency and reach, the need for local development talent is increasing. Up till now most of the development done by Nigerian organisations is outsourced to other countries taking valuable resources to other markets.”
TechSquad looks to address this problem, connecting Nigerian organisations with vetted local technologists and providing them with access to pre-qualified project managers, software developers and designers, who form ad hoc teams to work on projects at reasonable rates.
“Through TechSQUAD we want to enable 200 Nigerian businesses to deepen their use of digital technology over the next year,” CcHub said.
