The Accra-based chapter of the Next Bank fintech community is to host the inaugural Ghanaian Next Bank conference in October, bringing together stakeholders to discuss how design and technology can influence the financial services sector.
The Next Bank conference will take place on October 2 at the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST), with the event to focus on the theme of “designing optimal user experiences for financial products and services”.
The conference will bring together fintech startups and entrepreneurs, and encourage them to interact with investors, bankers, designers and regulators.
“The idea really is to give these fintech entrepreneurs the opportunities to create partnerships that will help propel their businesses,” says Paul Damalie, chapter lead of Next Bank Accra.
A number of speakers from the West African financial services sector have already been confirmed for the conference, including Jai Mirchandani, chief executive officer (CEO) of Avnash Industries; Derrydean Dadzie, CEO of DreamOval; Saqib Nazir, CEO of InterpayAfrica; and Curtis Vanderpuije, CEO of Expresspay; among others.
Damalie said the conference is inspired by Africa’s reputation for the adoption of innovative technologies – such as the M-PESA revolution. As such Next Bank is working to promote consolidated, collaborative efforts to innovate within the financial services ecosystem.
Next Bank was founded by Rob Findlay, senior vice president of experience design at DBS Bank in Singapore. The Next Bank Accra chapter is the second to be inaugurated in Africa; with a Nairobi chapter already in existence and led by Aaron Fu of NEST.
