Seedstars World has opened applications to the Angolan heat of the startups pitching competition, with one local startup to progress to the global finals to be held in Switzerland, and stand the chance to win US$500,000 in investment.
This year marks the first time Seedstars World will visit Angola, where it has partnered with Luanda-based co-working space KiandaHub for the launch of the event.
Startups from Angola will be asked to pitch their businesses live to a panel of judges, at the event to be held on October 24.
Applications are to be made online, and are open until October 2.
One local winner from among the Angolan competitors will progress to pitch head-to-head against finalists from around the world in Switzerland in February; for the chance to win up to US$500,000 in investment.
This year’s Seedstars World sees the competition visit 50 countries, up from 36 countries in the 2014 edition. 12 African cities were due to host competition legs – but this has since been increased to 16.
African heats have already taken place in Mozambique, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Rwanda and Uganda. Next up is the Kenyan competition, to be held on October 2, followed by the Ethiopian leg on October 8.
