Applications are open for the TractionBus startup pitching competition set for South Africa’s Gauteng province, with five entrepreneurs to win ZAR200,000 (US$14,850) in prizes.
The application process will see 25 candidates shortlisted by organisers Startup Edge, to compete at local events at five participating tech hubs around Gauteng. The hubs involved are the Innovation Hub in Pretoria, Riversands Incubation Hub in Midrand, BizFarm in Midrand, AlphaCode in Sandton, and Sophiatown Green Incubator.
At each of the hub-based competitions the entrepreneurs will pitch their ideas and one winner will be selected to receive ZAR200,000 (US$14,850) worth of prizes including incubation at the hub, mentorship, and access to office space.
The winner of each local competition will also “board the TractionBus” to progress to compete at the finals to be held during THUDfest – part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week celebrations -, where they will be exposed and pitch to an audience of investors.
Applications can be submitted online, until October 31. The shortlisted 25 entrepreneurs will be announced on November 4; and pre-competition training will be held on November 11.
The competition takes place on November 18, beginning at the Innovation Hub in Pretoria and travelling around the participating hubs, before heading to the finals at THUDFest.
