Seedstars World has announced applications have opened for the Senegalese leg of its global startup competition, which will see 10 startups compete for the chance to pitch for up to US$500,000 at the global final in Switzerland next year.

Global seed-stage startup competition Seedstars World has already held African heats in Mozambique, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana,Ivory Coast,Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia, and will now head to Dakar, Senegal on November 17 during the Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Applications are now open for the event, with startups required to be less than two years old, have less than US$500,000 in funding and have an available MVP. Seedstars World is also looking for smart startups that solve regional issues or develop profitable products for the global market.

“In the past years we have observed a strong entrepreneurial drive and digital revolution bubbling in Senegal,” said Gregory Pepper, regional manager for Africa at Seedstars World. “We are very excited to discover the initiatives developed by the local pioneers.”

The event will be held at JokkoLabs, with the hub’s lead and community manager Emmanuelle Bouiti acting as Seedstars World local ambassador in Senegal.

“Jokkolabs is an independent non-profit organisation, which is an open innovation ecosystem and a virtual cluster for social transformation based on an organic community of entrepreneurs. Its vision is to inspire and develop the local entrepreneurial community that will invent the future of shared prosperity,” said Bouiti.
