The West African Gaming Expo (WAGE) is set to take place in Lagos, Nigeria at the end of the month, following on from the success of last year’s inaugural event.
Disrupt Africa reported last year the first ever WAGE was held in Lagos, bringing together African and international game makers. The conference aimed to showcase African arts and culture, while also exhibiting international developments in the gaming market.
Thanks to the success of the inaugural event, WAGE is returning to Lagos this year, and will be held on October 30 and 31.
This year the organisers said they hope to support those wishing to enter into the African gaming market, and showcase local developers and their work.
The event also aims to introduce educational gaming, game designing, game development and game playing to the local African community.
Over 500 students, governmental organisations, ICT professionals, teachers, and representatives of educational institutions are expected to attend the event, and will have the chance to listen to presentations by top game developers and educators working in the gaming industry.
The developers’ session will act as a platform for individuals, organisations, and associations to showcase projects they are working on, walk attendees through different lifecycle stages of creating a game, educate attendees various softwares and educational courses and opportunities within the industry.
The conference will also feature an expo, where attendees can view and test the latest games; while a children’s day will invite children as young as five years old to learn the basics of coding.
