Jobs and learning platform Jobartis emerged the winner of the Angolan leg of the global Seedstars World competition over the weekend, and will now proceed to the global final in Switzerland next year to pitch for up to US$500,000 in funding.

Disrupt Africa reported last week 11 Angolan startups have been chosen to pitch during the latest leg of the global Seedstars World competition, which takes place in more than 50 countries and has already hosted African heats in Mozambique, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia.

The Angolan leg was hosted on Saturday, October 24 at Espaco Bahia in Luanda, and saw Jobartis picked as the winner by a panel of judges including Clausir Ramos, member of the content and apps solutions department at Unitel, Joel Epalanga, managing director of Kianda Hub, and Jofre Karymba, chief executive officer (CEO) of KAINVEST.

“It’s been a very emotional journey and I am thankful for the recognition of our hard work that we received with this award,” said Luis Verdeja, co-founder and CEO of Jobartis.

“It was a big challenge because entrepreneurship is a new thing in the Angolan market. This will give the opportunity to Angolan startups to compete on a global stage and learn from entrepreneurs from all over the world,” Ramos said.

Bitfyr, a product that reinvents the way users interact before and within events, came second, while ProxyPay, a hosted integration platform that makes card-based payment methods accessible to SMBs, came in third place.
