Cape Town-based coding apprenticeship programme codeX will on Saturday, November 7 host Code Quest, a recruitment event that allows prospective apprentices to find out whether or not the programme is right for them.
Set to take place at Workshop 17 at the V&A Waterfront on November 7 between 10am and 2pm, the event is inviting individuals that love technology and are driven to take apart and build things to attend and find out about the opportunities for obtaining training.
Disrupt Africa originally reported last year on codeX, a venture put together by co-founders Elizabeth Gould, Michael Jordaan and Daniel Weber bidding to tackle Africa’s lack of trained developers and create a new breed of entrepreneurs through its apprenticeship-style coding courses.
“Software developers are in infinite demand, and very short supply in Africa. We train our youth for the jobs that are here today, as well as the careers they can grow into to build our digital tomorrow,” said Gould.
The full-time, year-long apprenticeship programme trains young, talented minds to build real software in a fraction of the time it takes to get a university degree. The Code Quest event will allow interested parties to be introduced to coding through fun games, learn how to control robots using code, and meet current coders and hear about their experiences.
Tickets for the event can be obtained here, though codeX said there is only space for 50 potential coders-to-be.
