Kenya’s @iLabAfrica, the research centre located at Nairobi’s Strathmore University, has partnered local IT solutions firm Copy Cat to collaborate in driving innovations in the Internet of Things (IoT) sector.
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by @iLabAfrica and Copy Cat will see the two entities collaborate on research and development while also building new tech solutions in areas such as smart mall, smart parking and smart cities solutions.
@iLabAfrica and Copy Cat will alsowork together to arrange funding, mentorship, training and incubation for Kenyan ventures in the IoT space and organise related events such as hackathons.
“IoT is becoming an increasingly growing topic of conversation both in the workplace and outside of it. It’s a concept that not only has the potential to impact how we live but also how we are working in this day and age. We therefore have to embrace this at the earliest and that is why we decided to partner with @iLabAfrica and see what we can achieve together,” said Vishal Patel, executive director of Copy Cat.
@iLabAfrica was established in January 2011 with the aim of addressing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and to contribute toward Kenya’s Vision2030. The research center is involved in interdisciplinary research, student engagement, and collaboration with government, industry and other funding agencies.
