Sudanese logistics startup SmartDelivery and Moroccan mobile company LIK were the winners of North African leg of the global Get In The Ring competition, earning their places in the global final in Colombia in March.
Get In The Ring pits startups against each other in a boxing ring, with each entrepreneur having 30 seconds to pitch their businesses.
The North African regional final took place at the Startup Africa Summit, organised over last weekend by Startup Maroc. Get in the Ring global ringmaster Keith Wallace welcomed 400 supporters at the event in Casablanca.
Sudan’s SmartDelivery was crowned the winner of the middleweight competition, rewarded for its free delivery service of fresh vegetables, fruits and meat that comes directly from farmers.
The lightweight title went to Moroccan startup LIK, a company that gives uses mobile phone credit based on a points system.
Pitching took place in front of a judging panel comprised of digital entrepreneur Sabiry Chafik, investor Omar Tazi, 500 Startups venture partner Hasan Haider, Nest managing partner for Africa Aaron Fu, and K&A Associates director Khalil Azzouzi.
The two winners will travel to Medellín in March to compete for the Get In The Ring international title.
