Entrepreneurs invited to E-commerce Africa Confex

0
By Gabriella Mulligan on February 8, 2016 Events, Southern Africa

The E-commerce Africa Conference and Exhibition is set for Cape Town later this month, with entrepreneurs encouraged to attend to learn about overcoming the obstacles to profitability in the African e-commerce space.

The conference is in its second year of running, and will this year be held on February 17 and 18 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

The conference organisers, Kinetic, said the two-day conference builds on the growth of e-commerce worldwide, and is designed to introduce the latest trends, technologies and industry developments, and to facilitate networking, education and inspiration for e-commerce leaders and peers.

In addition, Terry Southam, joint managing director at Kinetic for the eCommerce Africa Conference, encouraged entrepreneurs to attend, saying the event will acknowledge the unique challenges e-commerce entrepreneurs in Africa face as compared to other global regions, and will examine how to overcome these obstacles for success.

“The event was created in mind to assist entrepreneurs in web-based businesses to realize the hurdles they’ll have to overcome in order to be both successful and profitable on the African continent,” Southam said.

“E-commerce in Africa deviates from what is obtainable in the western world. In most cases, e-commerce is not very profitable at all due to factors such as: cost of broadband; mistrust; poor supply and distribution chains; poor postal systems; high illiteracy rates; highly fragmented markets.”

The conference will feature conference sessions and keynotes speeches by over 65 speakers, as well as an exhibition floor to showcase products, and technical demonstrations. A range of entertaining networking opportunities will also be provided.
