Cape Town has been selected as a new French Tech Hub, becoming the sixth city globally to join the programme aimed at encouraging business and talent exchanges between France and South Africa.
The French Minister of the Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs designated Cape Town as a new French Tech Hub, meaning the city joins the five cities already designated – Moscow, New York, San Francisco, Tel-Aviv and Tokyo.
The French Tech Hub project has the support of leading French companies such as Methys, Orange and Schneider Electric, while a web portal has been launched providing information about local economic partners and contacts, and support available to startups.
Cape Town’s French Tech Hub in Cape Town offers South African startups access to new technologies, investment and talent, while the French government is aiming to continue the impressive growth of French companies.
“This success rewards all the efforts made by a dynamic community of French entrepreneurs, rooted in Cape Town, taking advantage of a leading innovation ecosystem in Africa,” said Elisabeth Barbier, ambassador of France in South Africa.
“This success will also encourage business and human talent exchanges between France and South Africa, in innovation and especially in the digital industry.”
