AhadooTec launches apps, national app store for Ethiopian government

Ethiopian startup AhadooTec has been awarded a tender by the country’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) to develop 20 apps and a national app store, forming part of the government’s “e-Gov” strategy.

The apps and national app store were launched this week, and are intended to allow citizens to have up to date information and access to public services via their mobile device.

The project covers the majority of state departments and services, ranging from a Federal Police app, Ethiopian Revenue and Customs Authority (ERCA) app, and Ministry of Health app, to an app for local tourism information.

“We are very excited about the launch of the apps and the app store since it marks a great milestone in AhadooTec’s history,” says Amanuel Abrha, co-founder of AhadooTec.

“We believe the apps will enable the government offices to be more service oriented and communicate with citizens effectively. Citizens on the other hand can obtain information on their mobile without the need to go to go to offices and stand in line for hours. They will save money and time and are able to make informed decisions,” he said.

The apps are currently available for Android devices, and iOS versions will be released soon.

Disrupt Africa has previously written about the launch of AhadooTec by entrepreneur Eskinder Mamo and computer engineer Abrha.

The startup also won the Ethiopian leg of the Seedstars World competition in October for its e-learning and school management system, Fidel.
