The first seven recipients of the “African Genius” scholarship for Masters’ study at the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Graduate School of Business have been announced, with the initiative aimed at boosting sustainable innovation in Africa.
Disrupt Africa reported in October UCT’s Graduate School of Business announced the creation of up to 10 scholarships for innovators and entrepreneurs working towards sustainable development in Africa.
The scholarships are offered by two specialised units of the Graduate School of Business – its innovation lab, MTN Solution Space; and the Bertha Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
The two units offered up to ten partial and fully paid scholarships for the school’s MBA and MPhil in Inclusive Innovation courses, to social innovators, entrepreneurs and mid-career professionals, who want to play a positive leadership role in the sustainable development of the continent.
Seven recipients of the scholarship have been announced, and will join the 2016 MBA/MPhil class. The MTN Solution Space said the candidates were selected based on their clear vision for the future, track record of action and leadership potential.
“We are incredibly excited to have these promising and talented individuals on board and to be part of their journey to become Africa’s future leaders. Although they all have different backgrounds and interests, they all share our vision of pioneering real solutions for Africa. We are confident these committed agents of change will shape the future of our continent,” says Sarah-Anne Arnold, manager of the MTN Solution Space.
The recipients will receive comprehensive support while completing the programme, including funding, mentors and access to business leaders.
