The LaunchLab incubator at Stellenbosch University has opened applications for the first leg of its biannual Ideas Programme Pitching Platform, with participants standing a chance of winning their share of over ZAR150,000 (US$9,800) in incubation support services.

Disrupt Africa reported in October LaunchLab announced nine winners of the competition, with the innovators sharing ZAR100,000 (US$7,500) in funding. Interested parties can now submit their pitch online or book to video record their pitch at participating institutions around the Western Cape.

“This programme is open to all aspiring and practising entrepreneurs from student and non-student communities who have innovative business ideas that are viable and could provide solutions to business challenges,” said Philip Marais, chief executive officer (CEO) of LaunchLab.

LaunchLab is looking for ideas in fintech and big data, cleantech, agritech and Food, edutech, and other areas, with participating institutions including Stellenbosch University, the University of the Western Cape (UWC), the University of Cape Town (UCT), the South African School of Motion Picture and Performance (AFDA), as well as the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College and False Bay College.

The pitches are video recorded and then filtered through a judging round to select finalists to pitch at the final event, which will be hosted at the LaunchLab. The winners will be announced at the Pitching Platform final on May 19.
