The Start-Up Tel Aviv South Africa initiative of the Embassy of Israel is looking for female entrepreneurs to participate in a competition for the chance to win a trip to the DLD Festival in Tel Aviv to participate in lectures, workshops and meetings with leading Israeli investors and professionals.

The Start-Up Tel Aviv South Africa competition, for which applications are open until June 3, is open to all South African women who are founders or senior managers of any hi-tech early-stage startup.

The winner will be given the opportunity to travel to Israel for an all-expenses-paid, five-day startup experience at the DLD Festival, which is Israel’s largest international hi-tech gathering, featuring hundreds of startups, investors and multinationals.

“Start-Up Tel Aviv South Africa, now in its third year, aims to share the energy of Israel’s startup culture with women in the tech-sector of South Africa through supporting truly innovative startups,” said Israeli Ambassador to South Africa Arthur Lenk.

“We know that in South Africa there are widely creative people who will gain from exposure to the world renowned innovation ecosystem in Tel Aviv. Our Start-Up Tel Aviv South Africa content is of benefit to both South Africa and Israel by highlighting the benefits of outside the box creative thinking and honouring the best new woman ‘startupist’ in South Africa.”

A team of judges have been selected to choose one woman to make the trip. The judges include Black Business Council member Noluthando Gosa, Core Group PR and communications lead Tanya Kovarsky, journalists Hillary Joffe and Toby Shapshack, and Arthur Goldstuck, head of the World Wide Worx.
