Kenyan freelancing platform Kuhustle has partnered youth-focused non-profit organisation Nairobits Trust in an effort to increase skills, awareness and access to online work for young people in Nairobi.
Kuhustle is a freelance community and online platform that connects businesses with skilled freelancers, while Nairobits Trust aims to empower marginalised youth in informal settlements by providing training in ICT, development, design, entrepreneurship and life skills.
The one-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two organisations will see Kuhustle provide a platform where youth can use their skills to get jobs, while Nairobits will increase the reach of its training.
The partners will jointly provide Nairobits students and alumni with technical skills and a platform in order to get paid for online work, while also jointly creating a customised soft skills curriculum to train the students at Nairobits on the necessary skills required to undertake work. Nairobits students will have their profiles on the Kuhustle platform showcased to enable them to build up their portfolio.
“There is a clear opportunity for young people to find employment in the space for online work. Kuhustle is growing with an offering of 70 jobs per month,” said Billy Odero, chief executive officer (CEO).
“By entering into this partnership, we are providing this platform as an access point for marginalised youth with relevant skills. Nairobits Trust has had a social impact mission from its inception, we want to acknowledge the great work that they have done, by offering their students access to opportunities that will change their lives.”
Rukia Sebit, programme manager at Nairobits Trust said, said the organisation was pleased to have partnered Kuhustle to boost its mission.
“Online work or freelancing is a growing marketplace for youth to get that chance at making a living. This is definitely a great step forward for our growth,” she said.
