Global science and technology firm Merck and entrepreneurial advisory firm Intellecap will today host the first of a series of e-health meetups in Nairobi, Kenya, providing a platform for entrepreneurs, investors, corporates and public organizations in the healthcare sector to get inspired, exchange ideas, and network.

Today’s e-health meetup focuses on the topic “Scaling e-health innovations in East Africa”, and is the first in a series of monthly events which will feature panel discussions with industry experts.

The three experts to speak at the first event are Mike Macharia, founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of SevenSeas Technologies; Moka Lantum, founder and director of Microclinics; and Duncan Onyango, East African director at Acumen Fund.

The event series will be hosted at Nairobi Garage, where Merck is currently running its e-health accelerator programme.

“With our accelerator programme in Nairobi we not only want to be part of but also contribute to the local startup ecosystem. This meetup is the first step to bring the ecosystem together and create value for its members,” said Michael Gamber, head of Merck Innovation Centre and responsible for the accelerator programme.

Disrupt Africa reported earlier this year Merck launched its equity-free e-health accelerator programme in Nairobi, Kenya, aimed at fostering the growth of high potential, early-stage e-health startups.

Three startups were selected to join the programme, which kicked off this month.  Flare, is an Uber-like transportation network company that makes ambulances more readily accessible in Nairobi; the Miti Health platform improves the supply chain of medication; and Totohealth utilizes messaging and voice technology to help reduce maternal mortality, child mortality and detect developmental abnormalities in early stages.

The three startups will be introduced at the e-health meetup; while following the panel discussion and presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to network with other entrepreneurs, investors and industry representatives.

Those interested in attending should RSVP by email.
