Global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World has opened applications for its Nigerian event, which will see one startup chosen to represent the country at the global final in Switzerland.
Seedstars World, which has already picked winning startups in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa and Mozambique, will hold its Nigerian event in Lagos on August 11, with up to 12 startups to compete for a place in the final and a chance to win up to US$1 million in investment.
The event takes place with the support of Omidyar Network and local ambassador Seedspace, with startups required to be less than two years old, have raised less than US$500,000 in funding and have built a minimum viable product.
“Our mission is to discover startups that come from bustling, emerging economies like Nigeria and give them access to opportunities for support and funding,” said Benjamin Benaim, founding partner at Seedstars.
“This year, we have launched our first physical co-working space in Nigeria – called Seedspace – and the Seedstars Academy, where we are constantly striving to add more value to our startups. Therefore, I am very excited for our Seedstars World event in Lagos.”
