Global early-stage startups competition Seedstars World has announced the 11 startups that will pitch at its event in Luanda, Angola on Wednesday, July 27, with the winner destined to represent Angola at the global event in Switzerland.

Seedstars World, which has already picked winning startups in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa and Mozambique, opened applications for its Angolan leg early this month, and has now selected 11 companies to battle it out for a place in the final and the chance to win US$1 million in investment.

The startups are online food delivery service Tupuca, relocation startup Ponto, mobile news app Manifesto, low-cost PC Kamputer, tech-enabled ticketing platform Ingresso, free internet service Wi-Connect, social network Nguimbi, e-learning platform Buka, on-demand services platform SAP-TECHNOLOGIA, e-commerce startup SOBA, and music streaming service Kiandastream.

“This is our second year in Angola and we are looking forward to witnessing the exceptional talent that Angola has on offer. Also, we want to use our platform to showcase the Angolan startups on the global stage,” said Claudia Makadristo, associate for Seedstars World Africa.

The event will take place at Banco Económico, with the Angolan competition carried out with the support of FACRA and local ambassador Kianda Hub.

“It is with great pleasure that FACRA will partner with Seedstars for the 2016 event in Luanda and get the chance to know first-hand the innovative businesses of Angolan entrepreneurs and be part of a worldwide effort in promoting and empowering startups in emerging markets,” said Armando Teixeira from FACRA.

“As the Seedstars Luanda competition day approaches, we’re extremely excited to listen to what this year’s startups have to present. The number of applicants more than doubled and were keen to see higher quality pitches as well as innovative business models. The July 27 competition will be a day to remember for everyone involved and will surely help boost our startup ecosystem,” said local ambassador Dizando Norton, from Kianda Hub.
