Digital Lab Africa, a new platform organised by the French Institute of South Africa, DISCOP AFRICA and TRACE, is asking startups in the web creation, virtual reality (VR), serious gaming and digital music spaces to apply for incubation and funding in France.
The new initiative, for which applications are open until August 31, aims to provide a springboard for African talent in multimedia creation with the support of leading French companies.
The incubation ticket will include time of residence in France within digital clusters and a EUR3,000 (US$3,300) cash prize.
Successful applicants in the web creation and transmedia category – which is open to innovative concepts and to any type of content – will be mentored by Lagardère Studios, a leading audio-visual production group in Europe, and European cultural channel ARTE.
In the video game category, which is open to developers of serious games for purposes such as education, the mentor is CCCP, one of the leading French video game studios, while successful applicants in the digital music space will be mentored by digital distribution company BELIEVE DIGITAL and fair trade streaming platform 1D TOUCH.
The virtual reality category, which is open to anyone producing content which offers an immersive experience to the public on any type of device, will see selected startups mentored by Okio-Studio, the leading French production house in virtual reality contents.
