United States (US)-based Y Combinator is to visit Nigeria in September as part of an extensive global tour as it looks to increase awareness of its programmes and identify promising startups.

Y Combinator will visit 11 countries as part of the tour, including Nigeria but also the likes of Denmark, Portugal, Russia, India, Argentina and Israel.

In Nigeria, startups interested in meeting Y Combinator representatives have a variety of opportunities. The team will be in Lagos for four days from September 23, speaking at a StarttUP Friday event, taking part in a fireside chat, and meeting a variety of entrepreneurs.

Y Combinator will also visit Abuja on September 27, where startups can sign up for office hours.

A number of Nigerian startups, including Shypmate and Paystack, have been selected for recent Y Combinator programmes, while the accelerators has also been paying closer attention to other African countries, offering places to the likes of Ghana’s Tress, Kenya’s Kuhustle and Egypt’s Instabug.

Y Combinator is just one of a number of major global accelerators getting more involved in Africa, with the likes of 500 Startups and Startupbootcamp also scaling up operations.
