Seedstars World has announced the 10 startups that will pitch to a panel of judges at its event in Accra, with the winner destined to represent Ghana at the global final in Switzerland for the chance to win up to US$1 million in funding.
Seedstars World, the global seed-stage startup competition for emerging markets and fast-growing startup scenes, has already picked winning startups in Egypt, Tunisia, South Africa, Mozambique, Angola and Nigeria, and will hold its event in Ghana on August 21 at Impact Hub Accra.
The selected startups include solar startup HQ Renewable Tech, fuel-free cooking tech GoSun Stove, investment mobile app Krinotech Solutions, mobile learning firm Chalkboard Education, online trading platform Swappaholics and social media analytics and marketing tool Cocktail Insights.
The rest of the list is made up of e-commerce management tool SynCommerce, content delivery system TECHAiDE, land rights documentation solution Landmapp, and low-cost urban housing company Nubian Oryx.
“After reviewing all the startups that applied to Seedstars Accra 2016, we feel very confident that this will be another successful event, one which will showcase Ghana’s potential as an exporter of technology. Competition will be fierce this year, and we hope that the winner will represent our country proudly in the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland,” said local ambassador Victor Kelechi, community manager at Impact Hub Accra.
“Last year we found our startup Asoriba here, who won our African Regional Summit and made it to the top 10 at our global summit. For us, this is a confirmation that exceptional talent can be found in Ghana and we are looking forward to meeting this year’s batch of talented entrepreneurs,” said Selam Kebede, associate for Seedstars World Africa.
