Nigerian online furniture marketplace Showroom.ng is to close down, with its founder blaming “poor execution” for the failure of the startup.
Showroom.ng, a platform for furniture makers to showcase their products to buyers, was launched in early 2015 by ex-Konga employee Sheriff Shittu.
All seemed bright for the startup in December of last year when it secured seed funding, saying it would not disclose the exact figure but putting it in the “seven-figure range”.
But less than 12 months later it is now closing down, with Shittu saying in a blog post that the business had been doing “fairly well” until “everything started crashing”.
“I personally don’t attribute the failure to wrong market, or wrong product. It was a wrong execution,” he said.
Shittu then went on to detail 12 reasons why Showroom.ng failed, including weak domain expertise and lack of speed. He, did, however, pledge to return with another startup after taking some time off.
